Boogers

We were awakened a couple mornings ago by Allison and Carter coming into our room to have us settle a dispute... about boogers.

     ALLISON:  Carter says his teacher told him that if you eat boogers you'll get worms in your tummy!  That's not true!  Is that true?!

She stands there with her hands on her hips and a look of defiance on her face waiting for an answer...

     ME:  Well, teachers are pretty smart.
    ALLISON:  But Carter says that if you eat your boogers you will get worms in you tummy and that's not true!
     ME:  Well, sometimes teachers aren't exactly right, but you shouldn't eat your boogers.  Anyway, It doesn't matter if you don't eat your boogers.

Long pause.

     ME:   Have you been eating your boogers?

Longer pause... and finally a shoulder shrug.  We burst out laughing and Allison demands clarification...

     ALLISON:  But it's not true that you will get worms in your tummy, is it?
     ME:  Just don't eat your boogers.
